Most brand origin stories are cleaned up for marketing. This one isn't.
Before Mission Workshop, I co-founded Chrome back in 1994. We built cycling bags and apparel when almost nobody else was doing it, and it turned into something real. But after more than a decade, I still had a long list of things I wanted to build that just weren't getting built.
So in 2009, I found a warehouse tucked down an alleyway in San Francisco. Surrounded by taquerias and dive bars. And we got to work. For months, the team and I were covered in steel splinters, sheetrock dust, and what I can only describe as very old insulation. We were converting the place by hand.
When we finally opened the doors, Mission Workshop existed. Not because there was a gap in the market. Not because a business plan told us to. Because we had a real obsession with making gear that's as tough as it looks, and we needed a place to do it.
That's still the only reason we're here. Every bag, every jacket, every pair of pants comes from that same stubbornness about not cutting corners.
Your $10 off code is MISSION10. It works sitewide and expires in 14 days. If you have questions about any of the gear before you buy, just reply to this email. I read them.

H2: Why Mission Workshop Is Built Different
Infographic: Checklist
- 30+ years in technical gear. Mark co-founded Chrome in 1994, long before most competitors existed
- Advanced materials that earn their place. VX fabric, UHMWPE construction, Mil-Spec 4-way stretch nylon, and 18.5 micron Merino used only where they actually improve performance
- The Arkiv modular system. Bags that expand, reconfigure, and grow with you instead of getting replaced
- Built and field-tested in real conditions. Documented in the Pyrenees, the Badlands, and a NASA research collaboration for off-planet exploration
- Waterproof construction throughout, not just water-resistant. Bags and outerwear that keep your gear dry when the weather turns
- Free worldwide shipping on orders over $200. Because gear this good shouldn't be limited by a zip code
Products Shown
- Rhake LS. The modular travel and daily carry bag that grows with your needs
- Quattro Series Outerwear. Made in the USA, built for extreme wet weather
- Control Backpack. Fully waterproof EDC for the commute, the trip, and everything between

Hey,
I noticed you haven't used your welcome code yet and I wanted to check in. No pitch here. Just a genuine question.
Sometimes people sign up and something gets in the way. Sometimes the timing is off. Sometimes there's a specific question about a product that didn't get answered. If any of that is true for you, just reply to this email. I'll get back to you myself.
If the gear just isn't for you right now, that's completely fine. I'd rather you remember us when the moment is right than feel pushed into something that doesn't make sense.
But if you've been sitting on it. If there's a bag or a jacket you've been looking at and just haven't pulled the trigger on. Your code is MISSION10, and it expires tonight. After that it's gone and I can't bring it back.
Either way, thanks for giving us a look. That matters to us.

Ready to see this live in your ESP?
Let's get your free welcome flow set up →Where most DTC brands leak revenue on email
These are the patterns we see across almost every $100K-$500K/month store before we start working together:
- ✕Most DTC welcome flows cut off after 2-3 emails, right when new subscribers are at peak intent and open rates are highest.
- ✕Relying on discount codes as the primary incentive trains your list to wait for deals instead of buying on brand desire.
- ✕The founder story and origin of the brand gets buried on the about page and never shows up in email, losing the biggest differentiator a small brand has.
- ✕Zero segmentation between first-time buyers and repeat customers, so everyone gets the same generic promo blasts.
- ✕Abandoned cart flows stop at one email. Industry benchmark recovers 2-3× more revenue with a 3-touch sequence layered with real objection handling.
Four pillars. No fluff.
Trust Transfer
Plain text founder emails convert your existing audience trust into buyer confidence in a way designed emails never can.
Layered Objection Removal
Each email removes one specific purchase barrier, so by the final send the only thing left between them and a purchase is inertia.
Controlled Urgency Curve
Discount pressure starts casual and escalates to real scarcity, without training subscribers to wait for the next deal.
Soft Landing
The final email is a personal check-in, not a hard sell. Non-buyers leave the sequence warm for future campaigns instead of unsubscribed.
Real numbers from a real 8-email welcome sequence
Social proof

Thanks for checking this out. This document will help you build a retention engine that keeps customers buying without burning through margin on discounts.
What I do
- Build email retention systems that generate consistent revenue for ecommerce brands doing $100K-$500K monthly
- Embed myself into your brand voice so every email sounds unmistakably like you
- Create promotional strategies that protect margin while keeping your list engaged year-round
- Design the 30-Day Email Engine, a complete retention foundation with a $25K revenue guarantee
My approach is different. I don't touch generic templates or cookie-cutter campaigns. This is boutique, voice-driven email marketing where I become an extension of your brand for 18+ months on average. No junior copywriters. No bloated agency bureaucracy. Just strategic retention work that CEOs actually care about.
I've helped brands like Ancestral Supplements generate $7.6M in attributed email revenue by focusing on loyalty and LTV, not just broadcast blasts.
